Government consultations are open to anyone potentially affected or with an interest in policy changes being proposed.
The UK energy sector is going through a period of dramatic transformation , with the government now regularly holding major public consultations on new legislation and guidance to shape the move towards a low carbon economy.

- June 22, 2009 - Carbon capture and storage "readiness" (DECC) - Seeking views on new guidance for the government's new carbon dioxide emissions-cleaning policy for new combustion plants with a generating capacity of 300 MWe and above.
- June 24, 2009 - Scottish Planning Policy (Scottish Government) - Seeking views on a new, shorter planning policy document from the Scottish Government replacing 17 existing policy documents - including "SPP6: Renewable Energy" - with the aim of making policy easier to understand and interpret.
- July 13, 2009 - Draft strategy for marine protected areas (Defra) - Seeking views on the government's plans to establish conservation zones in English territorial waters and UK offshore waters over the next 10 years via the Marine and Coastal Access Bill.
- July 24, 2009 - Revised Waste Duty of Care Code of Practice (Defra) - Opportunity to comment on Defra's revised guidance showing all those handling waste how to comply with their legal Duty of Care.
- July 29, 2009 - Environmental permitting programme (DECC/Defra): Seeking views on new government guidance issued for the slimmed down permitting system for regulated plants.
- July 31, 2009 - Sustainable buildings in Wales (Welsh Assembly): A consultation on a new technical advice note (TAN 22) within Welsh planning policy that focuses on sustainable buildings, including how to reduce carbon emissions through different approaches to energy.
- August 3, 2009 - Smart Metering for Electricity and Gas (DECC): Seeking views on government plans to roll out smart meters to all homes and SMEs by 2020.
- August 7, 2009 - Guidance on how to report greenhouse gas emissions (DECC/Defra) - Government guidelines on how an organisation should calculate its own corporate 'carbon footprint'. The reporting of emissions looks set to be mandatory for companies from 2012.
